Hello creators! As crazy as it sounds, we are just days away from moving into 2022. But with that, comes something all gamers can get behind: new games! Especially if you are a content creator, it’s critical that you know the video games coming in 2022 so you can prepare content for that. Luckily for you, we got you covered.
We put together a list of some video games that you are probably super hyped for, but also some that you may not have ever heard of before. You can then use this list to start planning out your content ideas and how you can create unique experiences with these new titles. Check them out!
Hogwarts Legacy
Release Date: 2022
Let’s be real. For any Harry Potter fan out there, this was the game we truly wanted when the series moved to video games. Hogwarts Legacy will put you into the wizarding world once more, this time in the 1800s. You won’t be running into Harry, Ron, or Hermione, but you’ll experience attending Hogwarts (and beyond) in an immersive experience that the other games never could provide us.
One of the coolest parts of Hogwarts Legacy is that you will eventually be able to select if you go down the side of good or evil. You can shape your character around these choices that will define your…well…legacy.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2
Release Date: 2022
If you are a creator who has done Breath of the Wild in videos or streams, Breath of the Wild 2 is a logical next step in your content. Breath of the Wild 2 is a direct sequel to the first one and will pick up with Zelda and Link.
Though there isn’t a ton of information available yet, Nintendo should be showcasing Breath of the Wild 2 in some of the earlier 2022 Nintendo Direct presentations.
Forspoken
Release Date: May 24, 2022
Forspoken is an exploration RPG that follows Frey, a New Yorker who is transported to the world of Athia. You are tasked with finding a way home, but quickly find out that on Athia, you have magical abilities that allow you to traverse the landscapes and battle Athia’s creatures.
If you are a fan of Horizon: Zero Dawn and Journey, this title looks especially up your alley. The exploration aspect allows for a lot of interesting ways to approach the story, while the overall gameplay looks immersive and enjoyable to watch.
It was confirmed at The Game Awards 2021 that it will be a PS5 Exclusive title for 2 years, though you can still play it on PC. Sorry, Xbox players!
The Callisto Protocol
Release Date: 2022
For fans of the Dead Space franchise, The Callisto Protocol is going to be a new favorite. It is the first game from Striking Distance Studios led by Glen Schofield, who headed up development of Dead Space back in the day. Yep, we are getting the man who brought us Dead Space heading up this project!
The Callisto Protocol is a next-gen survival horror game set on Jupiter’s moon, Callisto. The goal is escape the maximum security Black Iron Prison, while discovering the secrets it hides. Weirdly enough, it is canonically set in the PUBG universe. Yes, the battle royale PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
Survival horror games are insanely popular for streams and videos, so if this fits your content, definitely give it a go. You could even build to it’s release by replaying the Dead Space franchise for your community.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum
Release Date: 2022
Ever dreamed of being Gollum from Lord of the Rings? Well then this game is 100% for you! The Lord of the Rings: Gollum puts you into the shoes (or feet really) of Gollum. It is a story-driven action adventure game.
Unfortunately, there isn’t much information to go off of, other than the story will be driven by going after the ring that Gollum so desperately wants. You’ll get to experience his time as a slave below the Dark Tower and through his stay with the Elves of Mirkwood. You will also be able to decide if you play as Gollum or Sméagol, using stealth, parkour, and other actions to dispose or avoid enemies that you encounter.
God of War: Ragnarok
Release Date: 2022
As a direct sequel to God of War (2018), God of War: Ragnarok follows Kratos and Atreus as they journey the Nine Realms in search of answers, while preparing for a battle that will end the world.
God of War (2018) was critically acclaimed for its masterful storytelling and gameplay. God of War: Ragnarok will more than likely follow in its predecessors footprints. Any creator that focuses on story-based content should add God of War: Ragnarok to their list of games to play. It will be a hit among almost any viewer!
Gotham Knights
Release Date: 2022
One of the most interesting storylines in the Batman universe is definitely the Court of Owls. For the first time ever, we are actually going up against them directly in Gotham Knights!
Gotham Knights is going to be an open-world RPG where you can play solo or with one other friend as Red Hood, Robin, Batgirl or Nightwing. This type of gameplay could very interesting for a collaboration with another creator as you work through the story.
Though originally hinted as a direct sequel to the Arkham series, it has been confirmed that Gotham Knights lives separate from that game series. Batman is dead and the criminal underworld is flowing into Gotham without the Dark Knight to stop them. Including the Court of Owls.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
Release Date: 2022
The Avatar universe is quickly expanding with its next set of movies and with that, it is joining the video game genre as well with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. In this standalone story, you play as a Na’vi and journey across the Western Frontier to push back the invading RDA forces.
What sets this game apart is that it is a first-person, action adventure game. So you are stepping right into the shoes of a Na’vi and experiencing this firsthand. It offers a unique playstyle that you don’t get with third-person styled games.
For creators, this could be a wonderful way to get chat involved as you decide your look, direction, and how you tackle the story.
Elden Ring
Release Date: February 25, 2022
Elden Ring is one of the most anticipated titles for 2022. Plain and simple, it has some of the most influential people on board to make this game amazing. You have George R. R. Martin, creator of Game of Thrones and Hidetaka Miyazaki, creator of the DARK SOULS video game series helming this title in story and flow. It will be developed by FromSoftware, so the feel will be very similar to DARK SOULS.
You will create your character and be able to define your playstyle by utilizing different weaponry and magical abilities. You can decide to handle things stealthy, or go for a more direct approach with friends.
Yep, you read that right. You’ll be able to play online with other players or alone, however you see fit. As a creator, this is another great opportunity for collaboration with another creator and getting your chat involved with the look and feel of your character. Maybe you run channel points to see if your character is magic based. Or maybe your chat makes you go against an enemy with just a dagger. The possibilities are endless.
While these are certainly not the only video games releasing in 2022, these are the ones that caught our eye the most. Titles like Elden Ring and God of War: Ragnarok already have some massive amounts of eyes on them, but there are some lesser known titles like Forspoken and The Callisto Protocol that should 100% be on your radar. Overall, 2022 is going to be great for next-gen gaming!
